(TUCSON, AZ) — On November 25, 2012 at 9:40 p.m., officers from Operations Division Downtown responded to a report of a train/pedestrian collision behind the AMTRAK Station located at 400 North Toole Avenue.
Union Pacific Railroad Police and emergency personnel from the Tucson Fire Department also responded to assist. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male that had indeed been struck by a train. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation revealed that the train was on a westbound track and the train’s crew members noticed a male lying or sitting against the outside of the track as they approached the AMTRAK Station. The operator immediately activated the emergency brake and sounded the horn. The train was unable to stop in time and the pedestrian was struck.
The pedestrian was identified as 62-year old Charles Heffington. Next of kin have been notified.
